Inspiration
Spaces in Suspension
The "Spaces of Suspension" exhibition by Joe Smith and Therese Debono has left a lasting impact on me, particularly in their choice to include large prints printed on cotton paper. This deliberate decision inspires me as it aligns with my aspiration to print in a large format for my own project. The notion of presenting textures on a grand scale resonates with me, as it allows viewers to fully immerse themselves in the intricate details and subtleties of the textures captured. I am drawn to the idea that a larger format enhances the visual experience, encouraging a deeper connection between the audience and the textures depicted in the photographs. This inspiration fuels my desire to create impactful and immersive presentations that go beyond the conventional, inviting viewers to explore and appreciate the finer details of nature through a more expansive visual narrative (Debono and Smith, 2023).

My Exhibition Mock Up

In crafting the mock-up for my exhibition, consideration was given to various elements to ensure a cohesive and impactful presentation. The central focus was placed on ensuring that the middle image stood out as the strongest, acting as the visual anchor for the entire exhibit. A deliberate effort was made to establish continuity among the images, ensuring a seamless flow and rhythm throughout the display.
In the contemplation of paper selection for the exhibition mock-up, a deliberate choice was made in favor of baryta. This decision was chosen by a thoughtful consideration of its inherent qualities, which not only impart a tactile dimension, elevating the textural within the photographs, but also serve to heighten the emotional impact on the viewer. The overarching aim to elicit a profound response from the audience, engaging both visual and tactile senses, strongly influenced the preference for baryta paper.
Furthermore, the strategic incorporation of a white border surrounding each print emerged as a conscious aesthetic decision. This framing choice was intended to introduce a visual pause between individual images, providing viewers with an opportunity to contemplatively absorb and appreciate the unique textures presented in isolation. Simultaneously, it fosters a harmonious connection within the series.
In summation, the exhibition mock-up stands as a carefully balancing elements such as the central image's prominence, continuity, paper selection, and the intentional inclusion of a white border. The seamless continouty of these components collectively contributes to the creation of a visually captivating and emotionally resonant exhibition, with the goal of immersing the viewer in the world of textures.
