Experimentation Process

Crafting a multiple exposure exhibition required a careful and experimental approach. Main key areas where mostly experimentation that played a crucial role, including identifying effective elements, facing challenges in editing, making decisions about image orientation and cropping, selectively blending images, exploring techniques, and finding the right balance between relatability and emotional impact.

To start the project, it was important to experiment and figure out which visual elements worked well and which didn't. This helped in refining the selection process and creating a cohesive narrative.

The editing part of the project brought its own set of challenges. Experimentation involved trying out different editing techniques, blend modes, and opacity levels to achieve the desired look and theme.

Experimentation also extended to deciding how to position and crop the images. This involved exploring different compositions to find the most effective visual stories.

Not every image blended seamlessly into the whole project. Some images had elements of abstraction that didn't fit the intended narrative. Experimentation was crucial in choosing which images worked well together.

Since this project was the first exploration into multiple exposures, experimentation became an in-depth study of various techniques. This included learning how to shoot, edit, and edit light and imagery effectively.

A key aspect was finding the right balance between showing images that people could relate to and images that evoked strong emotions. Experimentation guided the selection process to achieve this balance.

This image was one of my first attempts at trying different blend modes. I noticed that the colours didn't match the narrative I wanted to tell, and the overall image didn't look unified. Even though I experimented a lot with blend modes, the combination didn't work well. This experience was tough but taught me a lot about the editing process.

This picture stood out as one of my favorites during my experimentation. I successfully captured the textures I aimed for, achieved a strong composition, and blended colours and images effectively. Additionally, it vividly illustrates the transformation from tree bark to a wooden plank, showcasing the intricate process.

In this experiment, I attempted to depict the transformation of soil into concrete. However, I faced challenges as the colours and blend modes didn't accurately convey the intended effect.

Although I like how this double exposure turned out, the intended narrative wasn't conveyed clearly, and I wasn't satisfied with the results.

In this double exposure, I appreciated that the narrative was well narrated, but I wasn't satisfied with the execution of contrast and editing in general.

This image effectively narrated the process from a beautiful sea to overfishing. While I felt that the narrative and the image itself worked well, the orientation didn't align with the diptych I had in mind.

In this image, my intention was to portray the transformation that occurs in fishing ports, from a visually pleasing sea to one filled with fishing debris. Unfortunately, the double exposure technique did not effectively convey this narrative.

This image was another attempt to convey the process of wood, using different blend modes. Unfortunately, I felt that it lacked the strength of the double exposure technique, and the intended narrative wasn't clear.

In this image, I took a completely different approach, focusing on using shapes. However, I noticed that the whites were blown out, and the combination of the double exposure and the image itself didn't harmonize well with the rest of the images.

In conclusion, the process of experimenting with multiple exposures has been both rewarding and challenging. While certain images stood out as favourites, effectively conveying the intended narrative, others presented difficulties, such as colour mismatches, unclear processes, or issues with cohesion. These experiments have served as valuable lessons, offering insights into the intricate world of editing and visual storytelling.

The journey of trial and error has underscored the importance of refining techniques, understanding the uses of blend modes, and carefully considering the narrative coherence in each composition. Each misstep has contributed to a deeper understanding of the creative process and has sparked a continuous quest for improvement.
